Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday. There are no mile-long shopping lists, juggling of holiday parties or the pile of cards waiting to be addressed and mailed. It’s simple. All you need are the three F’s… Family, Friends, and Food!
If the star of the day is the turkey, then the table is its stage. It is the heart of where everyone will gather, laugh, and create warm memories. The way you design your table will set the mood of the gathering, so, don’t let your table be an afterthought.
It’s all about the layers.
Layer One – Start with a good foundation. I like to start with a neutral base. Something simple and elegant such as a linen tablecloth, placemats, or table runner. Choose sophisticated pieces with unique textures and muted tones. Your napkins can add a pop of color. Tie them with ribbon, use a pretty napkin ring or layer them between the dinner and salad plates.
Layer Two - There is no better time to bring out your wedding china or grandma’s dinnerware and crystal. Add some personal touches for a unique layer, such as chargers in a festive color or natural wood texture, mix and match your china or go for a monochromatic look.
Layer Three - The centerpiece. Fall is the harvest season. Scatter pretty leaves and acorns down the center of your table. Add seasonal accents like pumpkins, apples and figs and don’t forget to add the glow. Candles make everything warm and dreamy, and everyone looks great in candlelight! Add height with pretty tapers, and weave votives down the center of the table.
Don’t forget that the most important part of the day is to be thankful. Nothing needs to be perfect, you’re with people you love and who love you. So, be present. Embrace the chaos and noise and most importantly, enjoy the day.
